I'm Lazarus Massavo
Lazarus Massavo [b.2002] was born in the waterlogged slum of Makoko, Lagos. He began his art practice in 2015 with mentoring from an art foundation called The Seed of The True Vine. TSTTVF is an NGO that mentors emerging Nigerian artists and cares for underprivileged children living in slums.
Lazarus works with pastel, graphite, and oil as his preferred media. His preferred subjects are people living and thriving in the waterlogged slum of Makoko, Lagos- a place inundated with septic wastes, polluted air, contaminated water, deplorable living conditions, and unimaginable poverty.
His art encourages the viewer to see the impossible as possible.
